VTK Import for ARES is a Visualization Toolkit (.vtk) file import plug-in for ARES®. This plug-in gives ARES the ability to import geometric data from ASCII and Binary VTK files.

VTK Import for ARES reads polygon mesh data stored in VTK files and imports it into ARES. A polygon mesh in a VTK file is comprised of a set of triangular or quad faces. VTK Import for ARES recreates the VTK model data inside the active ARES drawing. The model can be recreated as set of points, lines, polylines, 3D faces or a polyface mesh.

VTK Import for ARES is very easy to use. Once installed, it must be loaded into the ARES environment. There are simple instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to ARES's existing commands and a new submenu called "VTKImport" to the ARES menu containing these newly added commands.

Our licenses are single computer licenses and are locked to each computer they are installed on. Basically, the license key is specific to the computer's Host ID (the MAC address of the computer), and will not work on another computer. The installer picks up the physical MAC address of the network card connected to the computer which is basically “Ethernet adapter Network Connect Adapter”. So unless you change your network card, the key will always work even if you reinstall your operating system. If your internal network is periodically assigning a different Host ID to your computer, then please find a solution for this with your IT department.

Installation & Usage

Since VTK Import for ARES is a plug-in for ARES, it must be loaded into the ARES environment before it can be used. Please follow the simple instructions in the VTK Import for ARES ReadMe document which is copied into the installation folder. After you have loaded the plug-in file into ARES, simply click on the menu items in the "VTKImport" submenu or type "VTKImport" (without quotes) at the ARES command prompt and press "Enter". This will bring about the "File Open" dialog box from where you can select the VTK file you wish to import. Truly, software made simple!
