STEP Import for AutoCAD - STEP file import plug-in for AutoCAD
STEP Import for AutoCAD is a STEP file import plug-in for AutoCAD®.
This plug-in gives AutoCAD the ability to import geometric data from
STEP files.
STEP is a neutral file format which is widely used to exchange 2D and 3D data between various CAD systems. STEP Import for AutoCAD reads 2D and 3D geometry stored in STEP files and creates corresponding 2D and 3D objects in the active AutoCAD drawing.
STEP Import for AutoCAD is powered by the widely used 3D InterOp technology from Spatial. 3D InterOp is the industry standard for proprietary and neutral CAD file format data exchange and is used in almost all the major CAD systems. Besides data exchange 3D InterOp also offers powerful repairing and healing features which are extensively used in STEP Import for AutoCAD. Repairing involves checking the file for corrupted data and fixing the invalid data. Healing corrects the differences in precision. STEP Import for AutoCAD also creates a detailed log file which is extremely useful in identifying data translation problems and aids in locating and fixing errors.
STEP Import for AutoCAD can read STEP AP203 and AP214 (Geometry Only).

STEP Import for AutoCAD is very easy to use. Once installed, it
must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment. There are simple
instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new
commands to AutoCAD's existing commands and a new submenu called "STEPImport"
to the AutoCAD menu containing these newly added commands.
STEP Import for AutoCAD comes with detailed documentation as well as
a tutorial to get you started in
the shortest possible time.

The
STEP
File Format
ISO 10303 is an ISO standard for the computer-interpretable
representation and exchange of industrial product data. Its official
title is Industrial automation systems and integration - Product data
representation and exchange, and it is also known as STEP or the
Standard for the Exchange of Product model data. The standard's
objective is to provide a mechanism that is capable of describing
product data throughout the life cycle of a product, independent from
any particular system. The nature of this description makes it suitable
not only for neutral file exchange, but also as a basis for implementing
and sharing product databases and archiving.
