Point Cloud for AutoCAD – Reverse engineering plug-in for AutoCAD

Point Cloud for AutoCAD is a reverse engineering plug-in for AutoCAD. This plug-in gives AutoCAD the ability to reconstruct the geometry of an object from a point cloud which describes it.

Point Cloud for AutoCAD can drape a surface over a point cloud or wrap a mesh around a point cloud. Draping a surface is similar to laying a piece of cloth over an object. The surface is deformed to take the shape of the object along the drape direction. A surface can be draped along one of the six orthogonal directions (top, bottom, front, back, right and left) or a custom user specified direction. Wrapping a mesh is similar to wrapping cloth all around an object to close it completely. Point Cloud for AutoCAD has the ability to wrap a mesh around a concave or a convex point cloud.

Point Cloud for AutoCAD is designed to be extremely user friendly and easy to understand. It adds new commands to AutoCAD and also a sub menu called "PointCloud" which houses these commands.

IMPORTANT! Purchasing a Subscription is highly recommended since it the most cost effective way of keeping your software up to date. Moreover, Subscription entitles you to get a second free perpetual license for your laptop, among many other benefits. For details please read the SYCODE License and Subscription Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

Our licenses are single computer licenses and are locked to each computer they are installed on. Basically, the license key is specific to the computer's Host ID (the MAC address of the computer), and will not work on another computer. The installer picks up the physical MAC address of the network card connected to the computer which is basically “Ethernet adapter Network Connect Adapter”. So unless you change your network card, the key will always work even if you reinstall your operating system. If your internal network is periodically assigning a different Host ID to your computer, then please find a solution for this with your IT department.

Note: Downloading this software indicates your acceptance to the SYCODE Software License Agreement. The price mentioned above is for a single user license. For your bulk-licensing needs please contact us.

Installation & Usage

The Point File Format

A Point file format is basically a text file containing the x, y and z coordinates of a point on each line. Usually the coordinates are stored in the XYZ order. However, points are sometimes stored in the YXZ order. This is common in survey data where the YXZ order is referred to Northing, Easting and Elevation. Sometimes each point in the point file has a point number and/or description. An example of a point file with points stored in the XYZ order and has point numbers and descriptions.
