Tutorial 3 - Wrap a mesh around a convex points
Point Cloud – Affordable Reverse Engineering Software
In this tutorial we will learn
how a mesh is wrapped around points in a Point Cloud.
Step 1: Start Point Cloud.
Step 2: Select Import Points from the Points menu
Step 3: The Point File dialog box is displayed. Browse for
the file Wrap Mesh Sample 1.txt (typically located in
C:\Program Files\SYCODE\Point Cloud\Samples\) and click Open
from the Open dialog box.

Step 4: Select the format and delimiters in the Point File dialog box and click OK.

The points from Wrap Mesh Sample 1.txt are imported into the
active 3DM file.

Step 5: Select Wrap
Mesh from the Mesh menu.
Step 6: The Wrap Mesh Options dialog box is displayed. Choose
Concave as the Point cloud type and click Ok.

A concave mesh is created as shown below. As you can see the mesh spills below the points. This is not what we want.

Step 7: Delete
the mesh by clicking Delete Mesh from the Mesh menu.
Step 8: Repeat Steps 5 and 6. This time choose Convex as
the Point cloud type and click Ok. A convex mesh is
created.
