MeshCAD for Rhino - Mesh creation, editing and modeling plug-in for Rhinoceros

The concepts used in MeshCAD for Rhino are explained in this section.

Geometry

Edge

A line joining two vertices

Boundary Edge

An edge that is part of only one face

Boundary Face

A face connected to a boundary edge

Boundary Vertex

A vertex which belongs to a boundary edge

Edge Normal

A vector determining the orientation of an edge

Face

A region bounded by 3 or 4 edges

Face Normal

A vector determining the orientation of a face

Feature Edge

Feature edge depends on the value of the feature angle that is set

Hole

A closed loop of adjacent boundary edges

Mesh

A  geometry structure used to define objects with 3 or 4 sided faces

Quad

A face defined by 4 vertices and 4 edges

Triangle

A face defined by 3 vertices and 3 edges

Vertex

A 3d point location in space

Vertex Normal

A vector determining the orientation of a face

Component A vertex, edge or face

Face Orientation

Front Face

The side of a face which faces the face normal

Back Face

The side of a face which opposes the face normal

Right Hand Rule

The rule used to determine the cross product of two vectors

Modeling

Extrude

Extrude a mesh component along its normal

Chamfer

Bevel a mesh component along its normal

Offset

Offset a mesh component by a specified distance

Smooth

Smoothen a mesh component

Cut

Cut a mesh using a cutting plane

Slice

Divides a mesh into segments using a slicing plane

Shell

Shell a mesh to a specified wall thickness

Reduce

Reduce the number of faces in a mesh

Triangulation

Triangulation

Division of a set of points into a set of triangles
