Inventor Import for Rhino is plug-in for Rhinoceros. This plug-in gives Rhino the ability to import 3D solid data from Inventor part (IPT) and assembly (IAM) files.
Inventor Import for Rhino creates true 3D solids in Rhino which can then be edited using Rhino’s solid modeling tools just like any other 3D solid. This plug-in does not need Inventor to be installed on the computer or on the network.
Inventor Import for Rhino is powered by the widely used 3D InterOp technology from Spatial. 3D InterOp is the industry standard for proprietary CAD file format data exchange and is used in almost all the major CAD systems. Besides data exchange 3D InterOp also offers powerful repairing and healing features which are extensively used in Inventor Import for Rhino. Repairing involves checking the file for corrupted data and fixing the invalid data. Healing corrects the differences in precision. Inventor Import for Rhino also creates a detailed log file which is extremely useful in identifying data translation problems and aids in locating and fixing errors.

Our licenses are single computer licenses and are locked to each computer they are installed on. Basically, the license key is specific to the computer's Host ID (the MAC address of the computer), and will not work on another computer. The installer picks up the physical MAC address of the network card connected to the computer which is basically “Ethernet adapter Network Connect Adapter”. So unless you change your network card, the key will always work even if you reinstall your operating system. If your internal network is periodically assigning a different Host ID to your computer, then please find a solution for this with your IT department.

Inventor Import for Rhino is a plug-in for Rhino. Inventor Import for Rhino is very easy to use. Once installed, it automatically loads itself into the Rhino environment. If automatic loading fails there are manual loading instructions in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to Rhino's existing commands and a new submenu called "InventorImport" to the Rhino menu containing these newly added commands. Truly software made simple!

The Inventor File Format
Numerical Control (Inventor) was the precursor of today's Computer Numerical
Control (CInventor), which controls the automation of machine tools and the
inherent tool processes for which they are designed. The set of
instructions, or "program" (usually an ASCII text file in which,
in its simplest form, a line of text specifies the axial
coordinates of a point in the work envelope) is prepared from a
blueprint or CAD file and transferred to the memory of the CInventor via
floppy drive, serial data interface or a network connection. Once stored
in the CInventor memory and selected, the program is executed by pressing the
appropriate key on the machine operator panel.
