IGES Export for AutoCAD - IGES file export plug-in for AutoCAD

IGES Export for AutoCAD
is an IGES file export plug-in for AutoCAD. This plug-in gives AutoCAD the ability to export 3D solid objects in AutoCAD to a IGES file.

IGES is a neutral file format which is widely used to exchange data between various CAD systems. IGES Export for AutoCAD reads 3D solid objects from the active AutoCAD drawing and exports them to a 3D IGES file which can then be imported into other CAD systems.

IGES Export for AutoCAD is powered by the widely used 3D InterOp technology from Spatial. 3D InterOp is the industry standard for proprietary and neutral CAD file format data exchange and is used in almost all the major CAD systems. Besides data exchange 3D InterOp also offers powerful repairing and healing features which are extensively used in IGES Export for AutoCAD. Repairing involves checking the file for corrupted data and fixing the invalid data. Healing corrects the differences in precision. IGES Export for AutoCAD also creates a detailed log file which is extremely useful in identifying data translation problems and aids in locating and fixing errors. IGES Export for AutoCAD is designed to work with the following versions of AutoCAD:

  • AutoCAD 2010 (32 & 64 Bit)

  • AutoCAD 2009 (32 & 64 Bit)

  • AutoCAD 2008 (32 & 64 Bit)

  • AutoCAD 2007

  • AutoCAD 2006

  • AutoCAD 2005

  • AutoCAD 2004

  • AutoCAD 2002

  • AutoCAD 2000i

  • AutoCAD 2000

IGES Export for AutoCAD is very easy to use. Once installed, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment. There are simple instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to AutoCAD's existing commands and a new submenu called "IGESExport" to the AutoCAD menu containing these newly added commands.

IGES Export for AutoCAD
comes with detailed documentation as well as a tutorial to get you started in the shortest possible time.

The IGES File Format

The Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) file format standard was developed to address the incompatibility issue with various CAD/CAM systems. This standard allows efficient and accurate exchange of product definition data across almost all CAD/CAM systems. An IGES file is composed of 80-character ASCII records, a record length derived from the punch card era. Text strings are represented in "Hollerith" format, the number of characters in the string, followed by the letter "H", followed by the text string, e.g., "4HSLOT"
