IGES 2D Export for AutoCAD is a 2D IGES file export plug-in for AutoCAD. This plug-in gives AutoCAD the ability to export 2D entities in AutoCAD to a 2D IGES file. IGES 2D Export for AutoCAD reads 2D entities in the active AutoCAD drawing, creates corresponding 2D objects and writes them to an IGES file. This IGES file can then be imported into a number of CAD systems.  

IGES 2D Export for AutoCAD is very easy to use. Once installed, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment. There are simple instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to AutoCAD's existing commands and a new submenu called "IGES2DExport" to the AutoCAD menu containing these newly added commands.

Installation & Usage

Since IGES 2D Export for AutoCAD is a plug-in for AutoCAD, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment before it can be used. Please follow the simple instructions in the IGES 2D Export for AutoCAD ReadMe document which is copied into the installation folder. If you accept the default values in the installer, IGES 2D Export for AutoCAD will be up and running within a minute. However, if you choose to modify the values (for example, install the software at a location other than the default) then you will have to take extra care to see that AutoCAD and the IGES 2D Export for AutoCAD plug-in are properly setup and recognize each other. The IGES File Format

The Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) file format standard was developed to address the incompatibility issue with various CAD/CAM systems. This standard allows efficient and accurate exchange of product definition data across almost all CAD/CAM systems. An IGES file is composed of 80-character ASCII records, a record length derived from the punch card era. Text strings are represented in "Hollerith" format, the number of characters in the string, followed by the letter "H", followed by the text string, e.g., "4HSLOT"
